Product Description

NewStead End Joining Clip 100 Pack

An end-joining clip is a specialized fastener used to secure the ends of two deck boards where they meet end-to-end over a single joist. This connection is commonly referred to as a butt joint or butt seam.

Because wood plastic composite (WPC) decking expands and contracts lengthwise as temperatures change, these clips are vital. They provide the specific support and gapping required at the seam to prevent the boards from lifting, twisting, or separating. While a standard joining clip connects boards side-by-side, an end joining clip is specifically engineered to stabilize and secure the butt ends of two different boards.

Key Functions & Characteristics

  • Securing Butt Joints: The primary purpose is to fasten the ends of two separate deck boards to the same joist. This is necessary whenever the deck's length exceeds the length of a single board, requiring two boards to be joined in a row.
  • Maintaining End-to-End Gap Consistency: Unlike standard clips that set the side-to-side spacing, the end joining clip helps maintain the specific butt joint gap required between board ends. This spacing is essential for proper thermal expansion and water drainage.
  • Eliminating Extra Framing (Sister Joists): Traditionally, a butt joint required installing two joists side-by-side, known as sistering joists, so each board end had its own support. Specialized end-joining clips are often designed with an extended profile or "wings" to span both boards over a single joist, simplifying the substructure and saving both time and material costs.
  • Hidden Fastening System: Like other hidden clip systems, the end joining clip locks into the side grooves of the boards. This ensures a secure connection with a clean, professional finish and no visible fasteners on the deck surface.
