Why Gate Safety Matters

In the US, the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 325 standard mandates that all automatic gate operators must have at least two independent safety "entrapment protection" means in each direction of travel. These devices are designed to detect obstructions—such as a pedestrian, a pet, or a vehicle—and immediately stop or reverse the gate’s motion to prevent injury or damage.

Safety Note: Never allow children to play near an automated gate or operate the remote controls. If your gate is moving erratically or your sensors appear damaged, contact us immediately for a safety diagnostic.

Photo Eyes: These non-contact sensors project an invisible infrared beam across the gate's path. If the beam is broken, the gate stops or reverses.

Safety Edges: Pressure-sensitive strips installed on the leading edge of the gate. Upon touching an object, they send an instant signal to the operator to reverse. We stock a range of the popular brand ASO Safety Solutions. As well as the safety edges, we hold stock of wireless transmission systems to connect the edges wirelessly to the gate control board.

Vehicle Loops: Vehicle detection systems with metal mass detection. When a vehicle passes over, it can stop the gate from operating. Brands such as AES Global are in stock and available.
